TRAÇO was founded on a simple conviction: that architecture practised with full authorial commitment produces places people genuinely inhabit differently. Every commission we accept — private residence, cultural institution, urban quarter — receives the same rigorous attention to material, proportion, and the life that will unfold within.

We work at the intersection of building-scale design and city-scale thinking. A house is not just a house; it is a part of a street, a neighbourhood, a city. That awareness of context — from the hinge detail to the urban horizon — is what gives TRAÇO projects their recognisable presence without becoming spectacle.

Urban Intelligence

Every building we design is in dialogue with its city. We study the grain of the street, the flow of people, the history of the site before a single line is drawn. Architecture that ignores its context produces isolation; architecture that responds to it produces belonging.

Material Honesty

We choose materials for what they are and how they age — not for how they photograph. Concrete, stone, timber, and steel each carry their own logic. Respecting that logic produces buildings that grow more beautiful over time, not less. Trend is the enemy of endurance.

Authorial Depth

We are not a volume practice. Each commission is accepted because it aligns with the studio's ongoing design research. This keeps our work consistent, evolving, and recognisable — without being repetitive. Clients choose TRAÇO because they want a perspective, not a service.

Residential 2023

Casa do Douro

A private residence perched above the Douro Valley — designed around the dialogue between the terraced vineyard landscape and the domestic interior. Concrete frames the view; warmth lives in the timber and stone within.

Urban Design 2022

Praça das Artes

A new public square commissioned by the Municipality of São Paulo — conceived as a civic room for the neighbourhood. The design choreographs pedestrian flow, water, shade, and gathering in a city block previously given to traffic.

TRAÇO does not begin with precedent images or style references. We begin with the site, the brief, and the people who will inhabit the result — and we work outward from there with patience and rigour.

Listening & Research

Every project begins with extended conversation and site immersion. We study what the place already is — its light, grain, memory, and potential — before proposing what it could become. This phase is slow by design. Its depth determines everything that follows.

Concept & Dialogue

We develop one strong conceptual position — not multiple options designed for selection. This is then tested and refined through rigorous dialogue with the client: adjusted, sharpened, and made wholly appropriate to the specific conditions of the commission.

Resolution & Delivery

Execution is where the design is truly tested. We remain deeply involved through construction — present on site, attentive to material decisions, and committed to the quality of every joint and threshold. The built work is the measure of all prior thinking.
